Laik Ruetten

Position title: Data Scientist

Laik Ruetten joined the UW Madison IDiA Lab as a Data Scientist in June 2026, contributing to an ongoing collaboration with GE HealthCare. A UW Madison alumnus (M.S. Computer Sciences, 2024), he is driven by a passion for medical imaging technologies, specializing in image processing, AI, foundation models, big data, high-performance computing, and software integration. Laik previously completed GE HealthCare’s Edison Engineering Development Program. His rotations included serving as an IoMT Software Engineer for the Portrait Mobile system in Patient Care Solutions, and a C++ platform Software Engineer focused on deep learning for PET/MR image generation. Most recently, he served as an AI Engineer within the Connected Health and AI Lab at the GE HealthCare Technology & Innovation Center, a global research hub. There, he contributed to AIRx product models and worked on a UW collaboration that first introduced him to the IDiA team. Outside of work, Laik enjoys a mix of outdoor recreation and indoor tabletop games with friends and family around Madison and his hometown of La Crosse, WI.
